When we originally slid the dovetailed end pieces into the grooves within the main portion of the desktops, we glued the first few inches in place, with the intent that the desktop would only expand backwards (with humidity) preserving a consistent front edge.
However, the hold of the original wood glue was insufficient resulting in the "main" desk top pieces expanding both forward and backward. To rectify this situation, we drilled a series of paired holes within the first 6 inches of the underside of the top, and filled them with the Cyanoacrylate glue (used earlier to repair the broken dovetail). This essentially "pinned" the desk top's pieces ensuring (we hope) that future expansions will only be backwards, thus out of sight for the user. We also took the opportunity to permanently secure the brass bushings into their respective pockets using epoxy.
