Session 179 - July 29, 2020: Let your true grain show

Having finished and mounted the drawers and trays, the next finishing phase commenced: the frame itself. We chose to finish the outside of the frame with Tung Oil, adding protection from humidity while preserving the granular look and texture, applying with a cloth and rubbing to shine. While polyurethane provides a harder surface (thus ideal for the drawers/typing surface), Tung Oil is absorbed into the wood and requires multiple applications (with required touch-ups over the years). Similar to the other drawers, we also applied Tung Oil to the center false drawer front.
